Southeastern’s Matt Queen steps down from head coaching position

Southeastern has once again begun a search for its next head football coach.

SOSA Staff Report

CHILLICOTHE — Less than three weeks after being named Southeastern’s next head football coach, Matt Queen has stepped down from the position.

Queen was tabbed as SE’s next head coach on Jan. 28, 2020. That move was to replace Evan Gallaugher, who resigned from the position after seven seasons with the team on Dec. 11.

Under Gallaugher, Queen had served as the Panthers’ offensive line coach this past fall, and had served as a head coach before, at Vinton County in the late 1990’s.

The Panthers have won two of the last three SVC titles and are coming off a season where they finished 11-1. The program has also made three straight playoff appearances.

But if those numbers are to increase, it will be with an unknown name leading the way as the school’s search begins again.
