KINNIKINNICK — Put simply, Gunnar McCullough left no doubt this spring.
No doubt that Zane Trace was the conference’s best team, no doubt that his teammates deserved an outright title and no doubt that, individually, he was the league’s best all-around ballplayer.
Through 25 games, McCullough has hit .412 alongside three triples, six doubles, 25 RBIs and 26 runs scored. He’s also contributed greatly on the bump, piecing together a 7-2 record with a 2.13 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 49 1/3 innings of work.
Those numbers are why he’s been named the SVC’s Player of the Year, and also why Zane Trace is adding an outright championship title to its trophy case — the program’s third league crown in the past five seasons.
Pioneer skipper Ron Allen is the league’s Coach of the Year. He’s led ZT to an 18-7 mark with a 13-1 record in SVC play.
