BOYS HOOPS: Three area players earn first-team All-Ohio honors, multiple others grace list

Here's a look at the area's All-Ohio honors in Divisions IV, V, VI and VII.

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Prep Sports Media Association released its Division IV, V, VI and VII All-Ohio boys basketball teams Wednesday afternoon and a handful of names within SOSA’s coverage area graced the list.

In Division IV, Meigs’ Carson Davis and Circleville’s Kole Nungester, who was the Division IV District Player of the Year, were named second-team All-Ohioans. 

Nungester was the catalyst behind the Tigers’ 23-win season, which included the team’s first MSL title since 1983 and its first district crown since 1997.

Davis ended his career as the all-time leading scorer at Meigs, averaging 23.3 points and bringing back a share of the TVC title this past winter.

Unioto’s Blake Fitch was named to the third-team All-Ohio list after leading the Shermans to 20 wins, a Gold Ball and a district championship with 15.3 points per game. He ends his career as the school’s all-time leader in assists. 

Highlighting the special mention list are Waverly’s Kage Alexander, while the honorable mention list features Gallia Academy’s Ty Reed, Vinton County’s Josh Montgomery, Circleville’s Riley Jenkins, Logan Elm’s Brady Neff, Unioto’s Jack Welch, Washington’s Noah Haithcock and Fairfield Union’s Asa Kline

Circleville coach Evan Callihan was named the Division IV Coach of the Year. 

In Division V, Ironton’s Ashton Layne was named a first-team All-Ohioan after leading the Tigers to their first OVC title in school history and the program’s first district title since 2015 with 19.1 points per night. 

Chesapeake’s Maddox Kazee and Wellston’s Wes Briggs made the second-team list. 

Kazee was the engine behind the Panthers’ 20-win year and district final appearance, pouring in 18.7 points per night alongside his 1,000th career point, while Briggs led the Golden Rockets to 18 wins and a share of the TVC title with 21.2 points per game, including his 1,000th career point. 

Circleville’s Evan Callihan is the Division IV Ohio Coach of the Year.

Zane Trace’s Gunnar McCullough received third-team honors after guiding the Pioneers to 18 wins with 17 points each night.

Wheelersburg’s Braylon Rucker and Eastern Brown’s Chase Pinkerton made the special mention list, while the honorable mention list is highlighted by Ironton’s Maddix Markel and Brycen Mullins, Fairland’s Cliff Fransen and Trevor Lochow, Portsmouth’s Daequan Woods and Connie Thomas, Eastern Brown’s Matthew Dick, Wellston’s Justin Jackson, Chesapeake’s Kaden Perkins, Nelsonville-York’s Cameron Sullivan, South Point’s Devon Lewis, Lynchburg-Clay’s Denver Clinton, Zane Trace’s Grady Stewart and Wheelersburg’s Landon McGraw.  

Ironton coach Drew Stevens was named the Division V co-Coach of the Year, alongside Sullivan Black River’s Kyle Dack. 

In Division VI, West’s Will Kegley, who was the Division VI District Player of the Year, has been named first-team All-Ohio after leading his Senators to 19 wins and their first conference and district titles since 1985. He scored 22.1 points per night, including the 1,000th of his career. 

Peebles’ Bo Johnson and Eastern Meigs’ Colton Lloyd earned second-team honors. 

Johnson helped the Indians to 20 wins and a district championship with 16.4 points per game, while Lloyd put up 24 points per night for the Eagles. 

Headlining the special mention list is Eastern’s Boston Webb, Symmes Valley’s Bronx Carpenter and Huntington’s Frankie Hirsch

Making the honorable mention list is Belpre’s Malik Currie, Valley’s Christian Copen, West’s Logan McIntire, Adena’s Joey Francis, North Adams’ Carson Davis and Peebles’ Josh McClary

West coach Caleb McClanahan has been named the Division VI Coach of the Year. 

In Division VII, Southern’s Reed Brinager was named first-team All-Ohio after leading the Tornadoes to 22 wins and their first district title since 2009 with 24 points per game — including the 1,000th of his career. 

Fairfield’s Brody Smith and Green’s Jon Knapp were tabbed as second-team honorees. 

Smith was the engine behind the Lions’ 19 wins and a district title with 20.6 points per night, while Knapp netted 22.6 points per night for the 12-win Bobcats. 

South Webster’s Brycin McClintic and Manchester’s Parker Hayslip were named special mention, while Southern’s Andre Chandler, South Gallia’s Carson Stowers, Clay’s Evan Rider, New Boston’s Wyatt McNeil, Notre Dame’s Garrett Barbarits, South Webster’s Hunter Barnard, Fairfield’s Griffin Friend, Trimble’s Brady Jajczyk and Ironton St. Joe’s Barrett Waginger made the honorable mention list.
