FRANKFORT — All year long, Adena’s Katie Burns has been playing chess while her opponents have made do with checkers.
The Warriors’ senior star has gobbled up opposing defenses, routinely finding open holes on the floor and refusing to go away.
Her 446 kills leads the Scioto Valley Conference while she’s also added 29 aces, 68 blocks and 204 digs to her impressive resume.
Those numbers have helped her earn the SVC’s Player of the Year award as the league announced all-conference teams on Wednesday.
Also earning individual accolades are Adena’s Kimmy Dalton and Unioto’s Alyssa Stanley, who share the SVC’s Defensive POY honor.
Dalton paced the Warriors’ stingy defense with 408 digs and 453 receptions. She also added a team-high 69 aces for good measure.

Stanley also enjoyed a career year, tallying a team-high 442 digs and 563 receptions. And, like Dalton, she led her team in service aces with 48.
Meanwhile, the league’s Coach of the Year honors were earned by Adena’s Laura Smith, who guided the Warriors to a 21-1 record that includes the program’s 17th Gold Ball.
Joining Burns, Dalton and Stanley with all-league honors, and in no certain order, are Adena’s Jacey Smith and Jacey Jones, Unioto’s Zoie Dettwiller, Kinzli Batson and Charlotte Dennis, Zane Trace’s Karlee Snavely, Kerrigan Hill and Kailee Johnson, Southeastern’s Kylee Dunn, Lilly Steele and Gracie Brown, Huntington’s Brailee Hauswirth, Lydia Black and Bella Steele, Westfall’s Adrian Moehl, and Piketon’s Ryanne Moore and Aubrey Heath.
The honorable mention list is as follows: Adena’s Kortney Sowers and Allie Bossert, Huntington’s Roni Lytle and Kenley Smith, Paint Valley’s Nevaeh Conley and Aaliyah Young, Piketon’s Saydi Childers and Larkin Vulgamore, Southeastern’s Reese Ruckel and Calley Stauffer, Unioto’s Ava Patterson and Ellie Depoy, Westfall’s Cora Bruce and Natalie Young, and Zane Trace’s Reise Grant and Lydia Jarrell.
