Now is the time when everyone starts bookmarking joeeitel.com to keep up with projected playoff seedings.
I’m guilty of doing it, seeing who is dropping, rising and who is projected to play who. And there are A LOT of intriguing matchups.
But after tonight, there’s still three weeks of the regular season left, meaning there’s still quite a ways to go. And some conference landscapes are going to be shaped more so than ever this week.
Week 7 awaits us. Here are this week’s Power Rankings.
10. Chillicothe (3-3)
Week 6 Result: 35-21 loss to Miami Trace
Previous Ranking: 8 … -2
Last week was a bit of a measuring stick for Chillicothe, one in which it hung around for and had a lead entering the fourth quarter before running out of gas down the stretch. As long as the Cavaliers can bounce back and make the playoffs, this will be a pesky team to eliminate. But they have to finish strong.
9. Rock Hill (5-1)
Week 6 Result: 39-26 win over Purcell Marian
Previous Ranking: NR … —
Welcome to the list, Rock Hill. Rather quietly, the Redmen are undefeated in the state of Ohio — the team’s only loss came to Boyd County (Ky.) — as they currently sit atop the Division VI, Region 24 playoff seedings. There’s a lot to like about this team. They’re big up front, have a strong running game and play solid defense.
8. Jackson (4-2)
Week 6 Result: 55-21 win over Hillsboro
Previous Ranking: 9 … +1
Now that Ironmen are healthy and have worked through some issues offensively, everything appears to be back on track. The defense forced a slew of turnovers last week, and the offense took advantage of short fields. It also helps that Ryan Seimetz found the end zone five different times. The Ironmen will look to carry that momentum into a matchup with McClain.
7. Eastern (6-0)
Week 6 Result: 48-8 win over East
Previous Ranking: 7 … —
After three straight one-score games to open the year, the Eagles have turned around with three-straight games where they’ve turned on the running clock. That gives a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘balance at its finest.’ These next couple of weeks should showcase a little more of what the Eagles are made of, starting with an undefeated showdown against Symmes Valley.
6. Nelsonville-York (6-0)
Week 6 Result: 25-8 win over Meigs
Previous Ranking: 6 … —
That scare against Waterford seems to have woken the Buckeyes up. They went back to the basics in their victory over Meigs last week. Austin Gautier dashed for 160 yards and a pair of scores, but NY also opened up the playbook and he threw a touchdown. Also, Caeleb Layton getting 13 tackles and six for a loss is nuts. He’s a defensive wrecking ball.

5. Athens (5-0)
Week 5 Result: 44-7 win over Warren
Previous Ranking: 5 … —
The Bulldogs have three different quarterbacks, apparently, and it doesn’t matter who is under center because they can’t be stopped. Two weeks ago, it was Briar Thomas and now, it’s back to Daniel Heightland, who returned from injury. Although they’re undefeated, they currently sit at No. 11 in their region. Something to keep an eye on.
4. Unioto (6-0)
Week 6 Result: 45-0 win over Adena
Previous Ranking: 4 … —
Three conference games down, four more to go. Not much is going to change with this capsule on a weekly basis. There’s no questioning if the Shermans are focused or not. The results speak for themselves. Now for a rivalry game against Zane Trace. Remember, SOSA is livestreaming the game, so be sure to tap in if you can’t make it.
3. Ironton (5-1)
Week 6 Result: 24-15 loss to Wheelersburg
Previous Ranking: 1 … -2
For the first time in what seems like forever, the Tigers are not sitting at No. 1 in the Power Rankings. Every team meets its match at some point, and they met theirs last week against Wheelersburg. The scary part is, now the Tigers are surely more focused than ever. So good luck to the rest of their opponents.
2. Miami Trace (6-0)
Week 6 Result: 35-21 win over Chillicothe
Previous Ranking: 3 … +1
For the third time this season, the Panthers trailed entering the fourth quarter. But they figured it out and remained unblemished on the season. They have playmakers all over the field, and passed the latest big test while getting a little revenge from last season’s loss to Chillicothe. Onto the next one.
1. Wheelersburg (6-0)
Week 5 Result: 24-15 win over Ironton
Previous Ranking: 2 … +1
Who else was going to be No. 1? That was possibly Wheelersburg’s most impressive win since 2021, ironically enough, when it knocked Ironton out of the playoffs. The Pirates’ defense forced two turnovers, Braylon Rucker completed 73 percent of his throws and the offense had no turnovers. You couldn’t ask for a better performance.
