If you remember last season — and how could you forget — the area’s volleyball scene provided plenty of drama and an abundance of success as usual.
Between the SVC, SOC, FAC, SHAC, OVC, MSL-Buckeye and TVC, the seven conferences within SOSA’s coverage reach, seven different programs earned district titles.
But en route to those postseason finishes, there were plenty of individual performances to rave about, multiple records broken and tons of matches that won’t soon be forgotten.
As for this season, we expect much more of the same. But before it happens, for the fifth straight year, we’ve decided to compile a list of the coverage area’s top 30 players. It was an absolute bear to do so, but we think we’ve got a list of 30 athletes who are the absolute best at their craft.
Remember, this list only includes players from within SOSA’s coverage area and it isn’t an end all, be all. We encourage discussion, and giving our athletes the recognition they deserve is always our mission.
30. Kerigan Davis, Sophomore, Minford
2024 statistics: 122 kills, 41 aces, 13 blocks, 310 digs, 25 assists
If you’re looking for a well-kept secret this year, you can stop reading. You’ve found her. Davis played her role well on last year’s roster, totaling 122 kills and 310 digs for the 15-win Falcons. However, she’ll be the team’s go-to player in 2025. It’ll be fun to see her talent on full display.
29. Lauren Farrens, Senior, Miami Trace
2024 statistics: 210 kills, 37 aces, 20 blocks, 181 digs, 13 assists
The road to the FAC championship runs through Miami Trace. Farrens is one of the reasons why. Her 210 kills ranked second on her team while she also produced defensively, amassing 181 digs. She played a helpful role to FAC POY Addyson Butts. This year, she’s the leader.

28. Tylee Davis, Junior, Hillsboro
2024 statistics: 186 kills, 47 aces, 6 blocks, 386 digs, 11 assists
While Davis was certainly a weapon offensively, she was as good, or better, defensively. Her 386 digs and 16.1 per match led the Indians to 16 wins and a 7-3 mark in FAC play. This year, she’ll be counted on to do even more for a team with a ton of upside. Expect her to answer the bell.
27. Kortney Sowers, Junior, Adena
2024 statistics: 1 kill, 60 aces, 0 blocks, 163 digs, 447 assists
There’s a long history of prolific setters in Frankfort. If Sowers continues to do what she did so well last season, she may just join that group. In 1,365 ball-handling attempts, she made just 23 errors, helping the Warriors return to Dayton. She’s one of the best young setters in our area.
26. Sidney Keslar, Junior, South Webster
2024 statistics: 24 kills, 42 aces, 11 blocks, 225 digs, 820 assists
As long as things go to plan, Keslar should pick up her 1,000th career assist during the Jeeps’ first match this fall. She currently sits at 997 career helpers after posting a ridiculous 820 last year. She’s been blessed with good hitters, but she habitually places the ball right on the money.
25. Sadie Binkley, Senior, Logan Elm
2024 statistics: 0 kills, 29 aces, 0 blocks, 351 digs, 88 assists
In 80 sets last season, Binkley posted 351 digs — a team-high and an average of 14.4 per match. She was the pace-setter for the Braves’ defense and looks to resume that role this fall. She’s a great player and, possibly, an even better leader. She’ll be Logan Elm’s battery pack.
24. Zoie Dettwiller, Senior, Unioto
2024 statistics: 48 kills, 4 aces, 12 blocks, 23 digs, 4 assists
If an injury wouldn’t have derailed Dettwiller’s junior season, things may have ended differently for the Shermans. The senior has a powerful swing at the net and is unpredictable, keeping opponents on their toes. If she can return to form, Unioto has a top-tier hitter to look for.
23. Emma Figgins, Junior, Oak Hill
2024 statistics: 241 kills, 27 aces, 10 blocks, 281 digs, 14 assists
In 2023, Oak Hill posted two wins. Last fall, the Oaks worked to raise that number to 14. Figgins was a huge part of that turnaround, posting a team-high 241 kills and 281 digs. This season, she’ll try to replicate that success as she assumes a leadership role. Her trajectory is up.

22. Mylee Gleim, Senior, Wheelersburg
2024 statistics: 1 kill, 25 aces, 0 blocks, 416 digs, 21 assists
It’s as simple as this: Wheelersburg doesn’t get to a regional final without Gleim’s magnificent defensive play last season. Her 416 digs, or 15.4 per match, led the team and helped ‘Burg piece together 24 victories. She needs just 267 digs this fall to reach 1,000. It’s highly plausible.
21. Erin Lowe, Senior, Chesapeake
2024 statistics: 160 kills, 72 aces, 8 blocks, 234 digs, 401 assists
If her career ended right now, Lowe would be one of the best volleyball players to ever come through Chesapeake. She’s proven that, collecting 1,007 assists and 707 digs in the past three seasons. The Panthers won 16 matches last year and graduated just two seniors. Watch out.
