Ginger, Brooks, Drummond named OVC POYs, all-league teams released

Here's a look at the OVC's all-league baseball team.

IRONTON — After leading Ironton to its first district championship since 2003, Ian Ginger is adding more hardware to his already-large collection.

After earning first-team All-Ohio honors earlier this week, Ginger earned OVC Player of the Year honors as well, aiding the Tigers to a 19-win season from both the circle and the plate.

He hit .576 with a home run, three doubles, four triples, 30 runs scored and 17 RBIs, while also going 6-1 on the mound with a 1.84 ERA and 68 strikeouts. 

Portsmouth’s Trevin Brooks and Gallia Academy’s Logan Drummond also earned individual accolades.

Brooks is the OVC’s Offensive Player of the Year while Drummond earned Defensive Player of the Year honors. In 25 games, Brooks hit .500 with 12 doubles, 16 runs scored and 32 RBIs for the 18-win Trojans, while Drummond helped the Blue Devils win 10 games.

Ginger’s skipper, John Hunt, was named the OVC’s Coach of the Year for the first time in his career.

Joining Ginger, Brooks and Drummond on the league’s first-team list are Ironton’s Jacob Hughes, Bryson Kerns, Tyler Roach and Tanner Klienman, South Point’s Brayden Hanshaw, Kolton Layman and Ethan Layne, Portsmouth’s Jacob Roth and J.T. Williams, Fairland’s Ethan Wall and Garrett Cornwell, Rock Hill’s Drew Schug and Dawson Lewis, Coal Grove’s Derick Bloomfield, Chesapeake’s Aden Parrott and Gallia Academy’s Beckett Camden.

The honorable mention list includes Portsmouth’s Colin Perry and Malachi Loper, Ironton’s Braydon Baker and Carson Freeman, South Point’s Joey Lobaldo and Caesyn Pope, Gallia Academy’s Tylar Young and Matthew Foster, Fairland’s Kaden Wiseman and Josh Gillespie, Rock Hill’s Braylon McCellan and Carson Doolin, Coal Grove’s Leland McKnight and Kaden Murphy, and Chesapeake’s Dylan White and Mason Budd.
