20 area athletes earn All-Ohio soccer recognition

20 area players have earned All-Ohio status.

COLUMBUS — The Ohio High School Athletic Association released its All-Ohio soccer honors on Monday and multiple area athletes grace the list.

Starting on the girls side, in Division III, Chillicothe’s Kiera Archer, Jackson’s Sydney Carpenter and Athens’ Ella Chapman are all-state honorees.

Archer scored 46 goals and passed out 10 assists for the 11-win Cavaliers, Carpenter helped her Ironladies win 11 games with 22 goals, and Chapman led her Bulldogs to a district final while anchoring an elite defense.

In Division IV, South Point’s Jasmyn Jones and Wheelersburg’s Mia Vastine appear.

Jones was a goal-scoring machine, totaling 37 scores and pacing the Pointers to an OVC title while Vastine tallied 22 goals and 19 assists, leading her Pirates to a 17-3 season.

Minford’s Lexi Conkel, Eastern Brown’s Makena Corbin, Fairfield’s Vivian Henniger and Lynchburg-Clay’s Olivia Van Fleet are all-state recipients in Division V.

Conkel led her Falcons to their first-ever regional title, scoring 42 goals alongside nine assists. Meanwhile, Corbin had nine goals and 17 assists, Henniger scored a team-high 27 goals, and Van Fleet led a defense that won 11 games and yet another district crown.

As for the boys, in Division III, Chillicothe’s pair of Carter Dunfee and Isaac Herlihy alongside Athens’ Sully Pelot are All-Ohioans.

The duo led the Cavaliers to league and district championships, as well as an Elite 8 appearance, while Pelot led the Bulldogs to 14 wins with 36 goals and 22 assists.

In Division IV, Wheelersburg’s Breyden Byrd and Nick Sylvia, Gallia Academy’s Beckett Camden, Zane Trace’s Ivan Chavez and Fairland’s Gabe Polcyn are all-state honorees.

Byrd had 50 saves, leading a defense that allowed just 0.68 goals per game, while Sylvia scored on 59 occasions, adding 20 assists. Camden led the Blue Devils to a district crown, scoring 36 times alongside 19 assists, Chavez also earned SVC Player of the Year honors, and Polcyn tallied 17 goals and 13 assists.

As for Division V, Minford’s Myles Montgomery, South Webster’s Hunter Barnard, and Lynchburg-Clay’s pair of Isaac Eyre and Braedon West are All-Ohioans.

Montgomery led his Falcons to the DV state championship game, scoring 39 times and passing out 25 assists. Barnard set a new school record for goals in a season, leading his Jeeps to a district title. Meanwhile, Eyre and West combined to help the Mustangs win the SHAC title. Eyre made 65 saves in goal while West scored 15 times alongside five helpers.
