Unioto’s Milee Smith earns SVC POY award, all-league teams released

The Scioto Valley Conference announced its all-league girls basketball teams Wednesday morning.

CHILLICOTHE — After leading her team to a second consecutive Gold Ball season, Unioto’s Milee Smith has been named the Scioto Valley Conference’s Player of the Year.

The sensational sophomore was as advertised all season long, averaging 17.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.7 steals per night. Those numbers helped the Shermans finish 19-3 overall and continue their SVC win streak.

Adena coach Andrew Day has been named the league’s Coach of the Year, his third such honor, after helping his Warriors navigate to a 20-2 season.

Joining Smith with first-team all-conference honors are teammates Mya Hamilton and Amaris Betts, as well as Adena’s Emma Garrison and Huntington’s Allie Baker.

Hamilton was Smith’s partner in crime, putting up 16.9 points each night alongside 3.1 assists and 3.4 steals. Meanwhile, Betts was again a 3-point specialist, nailing a team-high 45 triples en route to 12.8 points per game and her 1,000th career point.

Garrison, the league’s reigning POY, also scored her 1,000th career point and averaged team-highs of 15.6 points and 5.9 rebounds. Baker led the Huntsmen to a 16-6 mark while scoring 16.8 points alongside 7.1 rebounds and 2.9 steals.

Southeastern senior Gabby Pernell, Huntington senior Emma Hinshaw, Adena freshman Marly Halcomb, Piketon Laila Kelley and Southeastern sophomore Gracie Brown make up the five second-team all-SVC selections.

Earning third-team all-league honors were Adena’s Kiera Williams and Sydney Ater, Unioto’s Maggie Holbert, Huntington’s Nora Moore, and Paint Valley’s Karris Dye.

Honorable mention selections were as follows: Adena’s Kamryn Sowers and Jacey Smith, Huntington’s Tori Smith and Leah McCloskey, Paint Valley’s Sophia Stauffer and Delaney Mannion, Piketon’s Ali Taylor and Laney Brown, Southeastern’s Reese Ruckel and Morgan Ware, Unioto’s Amelia Uhrig and Alexis Book, Westfall’s Aubrey Clark and Adrian Moehl, and Zane Trace’s Aubree Thomas and Emma Houston.
