CHILLICOTHE — When Greenlee Bossert is in her element, there’s not much you can do to stop her from being dominant.

Adena’s senior pitcher led a sensational team effort on Wednesday, both in the field and at the plate, and aided the Warriors (23-3) to a 7-1 win over Belpre in a Division III district semifinal.

In the circle, Bossert went the distance, allowing an earned run on four hits while whiffing eight hitters. At the dish, she led the team with a 2-for-3 effort alongside a run scored and two RBIs.

Needless to say, Bossert certainly looked to be fully engulfed in her element.

“My change-up wasn’t working today so I was throwing all fastballs,” Bossert said. “I was just really making sure to hit my spots.”

Belpre (16-11) got on the board first in its first trip to the plate with a solo home run from Makayla Carmichael, taking a 1-0 lead.

But that was short-lived.

Adena struck back with four of their own runs in the bottom half of the first as Adriana Guarnieri, Emma Garrison, Caelan Miner and Greenlee Bossert all crossed the plate.

Guarnieri and Garrison each singled before Miner reached on error, scoring Guarnieri — who again set the tone at the top of the team’s lineup, as she has all season long.

“[Adena] coach [Brad Jadwin] is always telling me that if I get on … I’m pretty fast on the bases, so I usually score,” Guarnieri said. “I’ve just got some really good girls coming up behind me to hit. So my goal is just to get on base. If I just get it in the dirt, I can usually beat out the throw.”

Bossert and Corcoran then logged RBI singles before Bossert scored on a double steal attempt, making it 4-1.

The tally stayed that way until the third when the Warriors added two more — coming on an RBI single from Miner and an RBI groundout from Madi Halcomb — to go ahead 6-1.

In the fourth, Bossert knocked her second run in with a picture-perfect RBI bunt single, scoring Guarnieri to make it a six-run lead and polishing off the game’s final score.

“Sometimes, when we’re not hitting great, we need to bunt,” Bossert said. “[In those situations], we really need to do our job and get [the bunt] down so we can help score runners.”

Following Bossert’s final numbers was Garrison, who was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs, Corcoran was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Guarnieri ended the night 2-for-4 with two runs, and Miner was 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

Adena now advances to a Division III district championship game at 5 p.m., Sunday at Unioto High School. The Warriors will face South Webster, who topped Zane Trace by a 13-3 final to advance.

“We have to be smarter base-running and just keep working hard,” Bossert said. “I know Caelan [Miner] and I are both seniors and I know we’ve made plenty of mistakes before. So it’s just about keep working and keep trying. Last year, we got knocked off by Ironton. So I’d really like to go out of my senior year with a district title.”
