BECKLEY, W. Va. — The defending Prospect League champions are headed back to the postseason.
With a 13-3 win over West Virginia on Wednesday, the Chillicothe Paints secured their spot in the Prospect League playoffs — and got some help from the Champion City Kings.
Coming into the evening, the Paints needed to add a number to their own win column while hoping for a Johnstown Mill Rat loss. Chillicothe topped West Virginia and Champion City handed Johnstown a 12-6 loss.
All of that allowed the Paints to capture the second half Ohio River Valley title.
Chillicothe posted 14 hits against the Miners on Wednesday while the offense was led by Trey Maeker, who had two hits and four RBIs Alex Ludwick, Nathan Karaffa and Jackson Feltner each had two hits and two RBIs.
The Paints will now face Champion City on Aug. 5 for the right to advance to the conference championship game.
