FRANKFORT — For the first time since the 2012-13 season, at least a share of the Scioto Valley Conference girls basketball title will reside in Frankfort.

The Adena Warriors earned that bragging right with a 56-51 double overtime win over Huntington on Saturday, improving to 10-0 in SVC action — four wins away from a Gold Ball.

“I’m so proud of our girls, how they’ve come together and accomplished something that hasn’t happened at Adena in several years,” Adena coach Andrew Day said. “Our girls have put in so much work since last season and they’re seeing it pay off.”

In Saturday’s win, Sydney Foglesong led the way for the Warriors (14-2, 10-0 SVC) statistically with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Jadyn Smith followed with 13 points and four steals, Makaela Lovely had 12 points and Emma Garrison chipped in with 10 points.

Huntington (5-9, 3-6 SVC) was paced by Allison Basye with 32 points, followed by Megan Steele and Carly Dyer with six points each.

Left on Adena’s conference slate this season are matchups with Piketon, Zane Trace, Unioto and Southeastern.

While one goal is in the rearview mirror, Day said his girls know there’s still much work to be done in order to add checkmarks.

“We have to continue to work on being more efficient on the offensive end. We have several tough games remaining in the regular season and our district come tournament time is incredibly tough,” Day said. “We have to continue to get better.”
