Waverly’s John Bonifield earns 100th career coaching victory

Waverly's John Bonifield earned his 100th career win on Saturday.

SOSA Staff Report

WAVERLY — If you’ve seen John Bonifield coach, you know just how much respect he’s earned inside his program.

Waverly’s head girls basketball coach has been a staple of the program, leading the Tigers to win after win. But Saturday’s victory may rank above the rest.

In a Southern Ohio Conference matchup, Waverly handed Northwest a 51-37 loss in front of a home crowd. It was Bonifield’s 100th career coaching win.

He’ll be the first to tell you that the feat is possible because of who surrounds him.

“I love the relationships I have formed with my current and past players,” Bonifield said. “Without them, this isn’t possible.”

The Tigers have now won six games in a row. Waverly is 8-2 overall with a 4-2 mark in the SOC. And Bonifield’s win total is at 100 … and counting.

“I’ve been very fortunate to have coached some great players and have been surrounded by awesome and dedicated assistant coaches throughout our program,” Bonifield said. “I can’t thank Waverly City Schools enough for giving me the opportunity to coach these young ladies.”
