WEST PORTSMOUTH — For the second time in two weeks, a Senator is the UPS Stores’ SOC Athlete of the Week.

Two weeks ago, it was Eden Cline. Now it’s sophomore Maelynn Howell.

Last week, Howell finished with 47 kills and 12 blocks in games against Eastern, Minford and Northwest. West’s versatile middle can play anywhere on the court and is one of the budding stars in the SOC II.

For her efforts, Howell is SOSA’s 26th overall SOC Athlete of the Week, presented by The UPS Store.

Out of 1,920 public votes, Howell earned 941 votes or 49 percent. Northwest’s Haidyn Wamsley finished second in the voting with 566, Minford’s Haley Knore was third with a count of 209, and Valley’s George Arnett was fourth at 204.

Howell received two of the four votes from the guys at SOSA to win the award.

For her efforts, Howell will receive a free t-shirt from The UPS Store, as well as meal coupons from the Schmidt Family Restaurant Group.
