Waverly’s Haydn’ Shanks wins Athlete of the Week honors

Shanks was 21-of-25 passing for 279 yards and five touchdowns in a win over Oak Hill.

SOSA Staff Report

WAVERLY — The consensus agrees that Haydn’ Shanks is one of the best quarterbacks to ever pass through Waverly … and the stats would agree.

Shanks, who holds the school record for career touchdown passes, was once again brilliant last week in a 63-16 drubbing of Oak Hill — a win that propelled the Tigers to an outright SOC II title.

In that contest, Shanks was 21-of-25 passing for 279 yards and five touchdowns. That’s become a regular thing for Mr. Shanks.

For those reasons, the senior has been voted as SOSA’s Athlete of the Week.

Out of 1,320 public votes, Shanks accounted for 468 or 35.5 percent of the total. Wheelersburg’s Kylee Barney finished second in the voting with 330, Chillicothe’s Kam Smith was third with a count of 283, Westfall’s Kristin Phillips was fourth at 120 and Piketon’s Levi Gullion came in fifth at 119.

Shanks received three of the four votes from the guys at SOSA as well.

For his efforts, Shanks will receive a free t-shirt and water bottle, thanks to Mile Tree Screen Printing, and a free Wendy’s combo meal via Schmidt Family Restaurant Group.
