Free recorded her 26th and 27th career shutouts last week in wins over Westfall and Lynchburg-Clay.

SOSA Staff Report

CHILLICOTHE — If you haven’t noticed yet, Sydney Free is one of the best goalkeepers to ever play in Southeast Ohio.

It’s really just that simple.

Last week, Free recorded her 26th and 27th career shutouts in a 3-0 and 1-0 wins over Westfall and state-ranked Lynchburg-Clay.

She currently has her Shermans sitting at 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the SVC.

For those reasons, Free has been voted as SOSA’s Athlete of the Week.

Out of 3,631 public votes, Free accounted for 1,703 or 46.9 percent of the total. Adena’s Nate Throckmorton finished second in the voting with 1,291, Wheelersburg’s Kaylee Darnell was third with a count of 253, Miami Trace’s Olivia Fliehman came in fourth at 217 and Huntington’s Megan Steele was was fifth with 167.

Free received three of the four votes from the guys at SOSA as well.

For her efforts, Free will receive a free t-shirt and water bottle, thanks to Mile Tree Screen Printing, and a free Wendy’s combo meal via Schmidt Family Restaurant Group.
