Cline totaled 53 kills in three matches last week.

SOSA Staff Report

WEST PORTSMOUTH — One of the area’s most welcome surprises has been the toughness and tenacity that West’s volleyball program has shown.

The Senators stand at 3-3 and have battled in every match they’ve played. A big reason why is junior Eden Cline.

Last week, Cline totaled 53 kills in three matches against Valley, Eastern and Minford — two of which were victories. Against Valley, Cline nailed down 23 kills before tallying 19 against the Eagles and 11 against the Falcons.

For her efforts, Cline is SOSA’s 22nd overall SOC Athletes of the Week, presented by The UPS Store.

Out of 943 public votes, Cline accounted for exactly 320 or 33.9 percent of the total. Northwest’s Brayden Campbell finished second in the voting with 304, South Webster’s Faith Maloney was third with a count of 194, and Wheelersburg’s Lauren Jolly was fourth at 125.

Cline received three of the four votes from the guys at SOSA to win the award.

For her efforts, Cline will receive a free t-shirt from The UPS Store, as well as meal coupons from the Schmidt Family Restaurant Group.
