Adena’s Preston Sykes wins Athlete of the Week honors

Sykes accounted for six total touchdowns in the team's Week 1 win over Paint Valley.

FRANKFORT — In a 50-28 win over Paint Valley last Friday, Adena’s Preston Sykes played exactly how we all thought he would … excellent.

Sykes led the Warriors to the win by throwing for 117 yards, rushing for 160 more, picking off a pass on the defensive side and totaling six touchdowns.

He also tallied a two-point rush, three two-point throws, five tackles, one for a loss, and a 43-yard interception return for a touchdown — you know, for good measure.

For those reasons, Sykes has been voted as SOSA’s Athlete of the Week.

Out of 1,494 public votes, Sykes accounted for 424 or 28.4 percent of the total. Piketon’s Jazz Lamerson finished second in the voting with 321, Waverly’s Loren Moran was third with a count of 257, Minford’s Haley Knore finished fourth at 247, and Unioto’s Isaac Little was fifth with 245.

Sykes received two of the four votes from the guys at SOSA as well.

For his efforts, Sykes will receive a free t-shirt and water bottle, thanks to Mile Tree Screen Printing, and a free Wendy’s combo meal via Schmidt Family Restaurant Group.
