VOLLEYBALL

Northwest 3, Waverly 0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-15)

Led by Haidyn Wamsley, the Mohawks (4-0, 3-0 SOC II) continued to stay perfect on the year with a sweep of Waverly.

Wamsley ended the night with 12 kills, two blocks and three digs while Reagan Lewis added 25 assists. Valerie Copas had four kills, Audrey Knittel had five kills and two blocks and Ava Jenkins totaled three kills.

“The girls have just come so far,” Northwest coach Elizabeth Jenkins said. “It’s encouraging to them and they’re seeing it. That just builds confidence. They seem to be becoming more confident with every game.”

Waverly (1-2, 1-2 SOC II) was led by Kelli Stewart, who had five kills, while Carli Knight added five of her own. Sarah Thompson also helped out with four kills and four aces.

Minford 3, Oak Hill 0 (25-17, 25-10, 25-15)

The Falcons (3-1, 1-1 SOC II) handed the Oaks a loss in conference play on Monday.

Oak Hill (1-3, 1-2 SOC II) was led by Chloe Chambers with seven kills while Kyla Simmonds added four blocks. Jordan Howard had nine digs and Baylee Howell had 11 assists.

Individual statistics were not immediately available for the Falcons.

Huntington 3, Western 0 (25-10, 25-9, 25-12)

Behind an impressive all-around effort, Huntington (1-1) earned its first win of the year on Monday.

Allison Basye led the way, totaling 11 kills, six digs and three blocks while Megan Steele added six kills, 16 assists and 14 digs. Katie Hirsch also helped out with 10 kills and eight assists while Carly Dyer finished with six kills and four aces.

Vinton County 3, Paint Valley 0 (25-7, 25-19, 25-19)

The Bearcats (1-1) fell to a talented Vinton County team in non-league play on Monday.

Leading Paint Valley statistically was Olivia Smith with five kills and five digs while Averi McFadden posted a team-high 13 digs. Kaitlin Potts also helped out with 11 assists.

Zane Trace 3, New Hope Christian (25-15, 25-17, 25-20)

The Pioneers (2-0) continued to play well on Monday, beating New Hope Christian Academy in straight sets.

Alli Bennett led Zane Trace with 11 kills, 12 assists and 13 digs while Kinley May added 13 assists and five aces. Lexi Betts helped out with 11 digs and Emily Allen and Hannah Hale each finished with six kills.

BOYS SOCCER

Minford 3, South Point 2

The Falcons (1-0) earned their first win this season behind two goals from Zane Miller and one from Adam Crank.

Waverly 5, West 2

In a game that was resumed after being postponed due to rain, Waverly (1-1, 1-1 SOC II) nailed down its first win this year.

Scoring for the Tigers was Keagan Smith, who tallied two goals and an assist, as well as Caleb Boyer, who added a hat trick to the mix. Adam Pyzik also helped out with an assist.

Zane Trace 4, New Hope 3

Spencer Wycinski was once again spectacular in a one-goal win for Zane Trace on Monday.

Wycinski scored two goals, including the game-winner with two minutes remaining. Also scoring for the Pioneers (2-2-1) was Ethan Nelson and Ethan Hanks. Nelson added two assists as well.

Piketon 3, Portsmouth 2

The Redstreaks (2-0) remained perfect this season with a close win over Portsmouth.

Scoring for Piketon was Noah Nichols, Dominick Neal and Dane Morgensen. Nichols, Neal and Jace Foster added an assist each while Oren Harris tallied 11 saves in between the pipes.
