VOLLEYBALL

Westfall 3, Logan Elm 1 (25-12, 21-25, 25-22, 25-19)

The Mustangs (1-1) earned their first victory of the season in non-conference action against crosstown foe Logan Elm.

Kristin Phillips led the way with a team-high 18 kills alongside six digs and four aces. Marissa Mullins followed with 16 kills and six digs while Claire Latham passed out 26 assists and served up three aces.

Piketon 3, Green 0 (25-17, 25-8, 25-20)

The Redstreaks (2-1) found their way into the win column with a straight-set victory over the Bobcats (1-2).

Ava Little led the charge with 14 assists, seven kills and six digs, followed by nine kills and nine digs from Chloe Little. Jazzlyn Lamerson added eight digs and five kills.

For Green, Kame Sweeney had 11 kills and three blocks while Ava Jenkins led the way with four digs.

Unioto 3, Fairfield Union 2 (25-17, 23-25, 25-22, 17-25, 15-13)

The Shermans (2-0) won their second five-set match in the past three days in a gritty victory over Fairfield Union.

Kacey Pierce led Unioto with 24 kills and 14 digs while Sydney McGlone added 10 kills of her own. Emma Specht led the way defensively with 17 digs, Carissa Wheeler had six kills and two aces, Ava Eldridge had 13 digs, and Sophie Coleman tallied 20 assists and 13 digs.

Huntington 3, North Adams 1 (25-19, 25-23, 21-25, 27-25)

Following an opening-season loss, Huntington (1-1) got in the win column for the first time with a solid victory over the Green Devils (1-1).

Katie Hirsch turned in a performance of 31 digs, 23 assists and 17 kills.

Allison Bayse added a team-high 21 kills and 10 digs followed by 16 assists, 14 digs and 12 kills from Megan Steele.

Southeastern 3, New Hope 1 (24-26, 25-22, 25-14, 25-21)

The Panthers (2-0) continued its early season success with a non-conference victory over New Hope Christian Academy.

Hannah Lougheed led the way with 15 kills and nine digs, followed by 16 digs from Lexie Lockwood.

Olivia Higley had 13 assists and 12 digs while Macy Corcoran added 13 digs and seven kills.

Adena 3, Vinton County 1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-12)

The Warriors (1-0) began their season with a non-conference win at Vinton County on Thursday.

Oak Hill 3, Valley 0 (25-6, 25-21, 25-20)

After falling in straight sets on Tuesday, the Oaks (1-2, 1-1 SOC II) earned their first win of the season in conference action over the Indians.

Chloe Chambers led the way with 10 kills and three aces, while Baylee Howell added 14 assists and three kills.

Valley falls to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the SOC II.

GIRLS SOCCER

Waverly 10, Ironton St. Joe 3

The Tigers (2-0, 2-0 SOC) had little trouble striking early and often against the Flyers (0-1, 0-1 SOC) behind four goals and an assist from Zoiee Smith to lead the way.

Loren Moran dazzled with a hat trick while Amelia Willis added two goals and Lauren Murphy had a goal.

Kylie Smith added three assists in the victory.

Wheelersburg 12, West 0

Jocelyn Tilley found the back of the net three times as the Pirates (1-0, 1-0 SOC) pitched a shutout over the Senators (0-2, 0-2 SOC).

Bella Miller had two goals and an assist while Ellie Kallner, Laney Eller, Annie Coriell and Kylan Darnell additionally found the back of the net.

Kallner added two assists and Miller, Darnell, Coriell, and Darnell had an assist each.

Piketon 6, Chesapeake 0

Olivia McCrae led the Redstreaks (2-0) with a hat trick as they moved past the Panthers in a non-conference tilt.

Whitney Dean scored twice and Aliah Grace added a goal while Natalie Cooper pitched her second consecutive shutout.

BOYS SOCCER

Zane Trace 5, Clay 4

Led by a hat trick from Spencer Wycinski, the Pioneers (1-1-1) managed to outlast the Panthers (0-1) in non-conference action.

Brayden and Brock Jarrell also scored a goal each for the Pioneers.

Unioto 5, Hillsboro 0

Ethan Kerns and River Pettigrew each found the back of the net twice as the Shermans (2-0) ousted the Indians (0-2) with ease.

Freshman Lucas Hanes also scored a goal and passed out four assists.

Wheelersburg 16, West 0

10 different Pirates scored as they had no trouble moving past the Senators.

Scorers for Wheelersburg (2-0, 1-0 SOC) included Aaron Jolly, Braxton Sammons, Carter McCorkle, Jacob Saxby, Nathan Sylvia, Gavin Rase, Connor Estep and more.

West drops to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the SOC.

South Webster 1, Waverly 0

The Jeeps (1-0, 1-0 SOC) inched by the Tigers (0-1, 0-1 SOC) on Thursday in both teams’ conference openers.

“It’s definitely a game we can learn from and build off of,” Waverly coach Luke McAllister said. “We would have all loved to have had a different result but tonight definitely showed the boys that we can compete with teams in the league.”

Jackson 5, Fairland 1

Collin Ghearing scored two goals and passed out two assists as the Ironmen (2-0) eased by the Dragons.

Broc Williams, Noah Collins and Joe Crabtree each had a goal, while Trent Wolford and Ashton Swann added an assist each.
