VOLLEYBALL
Zane Trace 3, Canal Winchester 0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-16)
The Pioneers (1-0) started their season with an impressive sweep of visiting Canal Winchester on Monday.
In the victory, Alli Bennett logged seven kills and seven assists, Laynee Hill had five kills and 17 digs, Kinley May added five digs and 17 assists, Lexi Betts had 11 digs, Hannah Hale finished the night with five kills, and Emily Allen tallied six kills.
The Pioneers are back in action next Monday, taking on New Hope Christian.
West 3, Rock Hill 0 (25-9, 25-12, 25-11)
The Senators (1-0) started their year on the right foot with a clean sweep of Rock Hill in a non-conference affair.
West was led statistically by Charlie Jo Howard, who posted 17 kills, 14 assists and five aces. Maelynn Howell also helped with 10 kills, Eden Cline added five kills and 14 assists, Haley Coleman had nine kills and Emily Moore finished with five kills.
Next on the schedule for West is a home date against Waverly on Tuesday.

Northwest 3, New Boston 0 (25-5, 25-17, 25-11)
Behind Haidyn Wamsley’s 10 kills and eight digs, the Mohawks (1-0) won their first match this season on Monday.
Wamsley was joined statistically by Ava Jenkins with 12 digs and four kills and Reagan Lewis with 30 assists and five digs. Valerie Copas had nine kills and four digs, Audrey Knittel had six kills, and Kloe Montgomery added five kills.
Statistics for New Boston (0-1) were not made available.
Northwest is back in action on Tuesday at Oak Hill while New Boston hosts Coal Grove on Wednesday.
Wellston 3, Oak Hill 0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-22)
The Oaks (0-1) dropped their season opener to county rival Wellston on Monday in straight sets.
Chloe Chambers had three kills, six blocks and three aces, Baylee Howell finished with three aces and six assists, and Brenna Davis had three kills.
Oak Hill will try and get its first win on Tuesday, hosting Northwest.
McClain 3, Eastern 1 (16-25, 25-9, 26-24, 25-22)
With a win over Eastern on Monday, the Tigers (2-0) got their second consecutive win to start the fall season.
Statistics for McClain were not available.
For the Eagles (0-1), Andee Lester had 10 kills and seven blocks, Chloe Dixon finished with five kills, and Reileigh Potts led the team in digs with six.
Eastern is back in action on Tuesday, hosting Minford, while McClain hosts Western on Thursday.
Green 3, West Union 0 (25-23, 25-23, 26-24)
The Bobcats (1-0) started their season on the right foot, sweeping West Union on Monday.
Kame Sweeney led the charge offensively, posting eight kills and four aces while Alex Smith added five kills, two aces and a team-high 21 assists.
Statistics for West Union (0-1) were not available.
Green gets back to it on Wednesday, traveling to Wellston, while West Union travels to Piketon the same evening.

Waverly 10, West 0

Seven different players scored in Waverly’s win over West on Monday, including five seniors.
Loren Moran had three goals, Zoiee Smith added two goals and an assist, and five others scored one goal each — Katie Walker, Katy Helton, Amelia Willis, Michaela Rhoads and Macy Gecowets.
“Eventually, we found our rhythm and began communicating as a team,” Waverly coach Chris Murphy said. “I was satisfied with the end result. [West coach] Tom Hoggard always does a great job of preparing his athletes. The girls worked hard the entire match and kept a positive attitude. We want to wish Portsmouth West good luck through the rest of their season.”
The Tigers (1-0, 1-0 SOC II) will be back in action on Thursday, hosting Ironton St. Joe, while West (0-1, 0-1 SOC II) tries to bounce back on the same evening, heading to Wheelersburg.
Minford 1, South Point 1
The Falcons (0-0-1) played 80 minutes of sound soccer on Monday before ending the game in a 1-1 tie.
Scoring for Minford was Haley Knore.
McClain 6, Logan Elm 3
Behind four goals from senior Kerigan Pollard, the Tigers (1-0) earned a season-opening win on Monday.
Also scoring for McClain was Payton Pryor and Luca Matesic.
McClain will be back on the pitch Wednesday, traveling to Fairfield.

Eastern Brown 3, North Adams 2
In a hard-fought Southern Hills Athletic Conference matchup, Eastern Brown topped North Adams by a 3-2 final on Monday.
Emma Prine scored two goals for Eastern (2-0, 1-0 SHAC), including a late penalty kick that proved to be the game-winner. The Warriors’ third goal came thanks to Mary Litzinger. Rylee Leonard had two assists and Mackenzie Dotson added another. In goal, Karleigh Perkins made 10 saves.
For North Adams (1-1, 0-1 SHAC), Hunter Grooms and Kenlie Jones each scored goals.
Eastern is back in action on Thursday, at Western Brown, while North Adams hosts Lynchburg-Clay on Wednesday.
Amanda-Clearcreek 3, Zane Trace 2
The Pioneers (0-2) dropped their second straight contest on Monday but showed strong signs of improvement while doing so.
Scoring for Zane Trace was Alexis Guffey, her second this season, and Brianna Fetters.
The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday, traveling to Logan Elm.
West Jefferson 7, Westfall 2
The Mustangs (0-1) fell in their season opener to a talented West Jefferson team.
Kylee Henry and Mahaley Farmer each scored goals for Westfall while goalkeeper Cloe Gardner had 15 saves.
