HILLSBORO — Chillicothe Post 757 continued its hot start this summer with a 7-6 win over Hillsboro Post 129, Friday in each team’s opening contest of the Hillsboro Wood Bat Tournament.
The Colts (4-1) were led by Nick Salyer, who picked up the win on the hill in two innings of work. Salyer allowed one hit and no runs. He split the pitching duties with Ray Byers, Ryan Schwartz and Zane Joseph,
Cole Ratcliff was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, two runs and two RBIs while Bryce McWhorter also logged two hits. Schwartz got in on the fun as well, going 2-for-3 with a run. Salyer helped his own cause, going 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.
For Hillsboro, RJ Taylor was 2-for-3 with a run and Dominic Kernes was 2-for-3 with a double, a run and two RBIs.
Post 129 (4-8) also fell to Piqua on Friday by a 10-3 final. In that contest, Taylor, Matthew Mitchell, Jon Salyer, Drew Pitzer and Chase Smaltz all had a base hit each.
TROY BOMBERS 5, POST 142 4
Also in action Friday was Post 142 (3-2), who fell to the Troy Bombers by a one-run margin.
Lane Mettler took the tough-luck loss on the bump, throwing four innings, striking out seven and surrendering three earned runs.
“It was a nice outing for Lane. We just didn’t play well enough to deserve to win this game,” 142 coach Jonathan Teeters.
At the dish, Mettler was 1-for-2 with a double, a run and an RBI. Derek Eblin also helped out, finishing 2-for-3 with a run, and JT Barnett finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
PORTSMOUTH POST 23 10, HILLSBORO JUNIORS 4
Portsmouth (1-4) earned a 10-4 win over Hillsboro Juniors on Friday. The team will be back in action Saturday morning.
