CHILLICOTHE — There’s no doubt about it … Unioto will miss Nate Keiser. That’s true in a variety of ways.
However, on the baseball field, his departure may be felt the most. For the past four years, Keiser has not only established himself as one of the area’s most consistent players, but he’s displayed leadership abilities that coaches salivate over.
This past week, Keiser decided to continue to develop his skill set at the next level and signed with Muskingum University’s baseball program.
“I chose Muskingum because I love the atmosphere and the school,” Keiser said. “When I went up there, I felt like I could see myself there for four years. Family, teammates, and coaches have meant the world. That’s especially true with my parents. They have helped me through the whole journey.”
As a junior, Keiser hit .303 for the Shermans alongside 17 runs scored and 13 RBIs. He was the top of the lineup on a team that finished 15-8 overall and 10-4 in the Scioto Valley Conference.
That came after a year where Unioto won a Division II district title with a 3-0 win over Athens … the one moment that Keiser would go back and relive if he had the chance.
“That was one of the greatest moments because we eventually came together and really did something amazing,” he said.
Muskingum was 11-26 in 2019 before piecing together a 5-6 mark this spring. Keiser should have the chance to compete for a starting spot as soon as he becomes a Fighting Muskie.
Either way, he’s just looking for ways to get better.
“I look forward to developing myself more.” Keiser siad. “I can’t wait to be on campus and I’m excited to have the opportunity to play baseball. A college athlete to me means that out of everyone that plays baseball, they chose me, among others, to play at the next level, and that’s very special to me.”
