Wheelersburg’s Kaylee Darnell wins The UPS Store’s SOC Athlete of the Week award

Darnell scored her 1,000th career point in a win over Eastern while continuing to lead the Pirates in scoring.

SOSA Staff Report

WHEELERSBURG — When you’re discussing pure scorers in Southern Ohio, Wheelersburg junior Kaylee Darnell has to be near the top of the list.

Darnell has led the Pirates to a 20-2 overall record this season, yet another outright SOC II title, and a No. 2 seed in the Southeast District tournament.

Last week, in a 63-31 win over Eastern, Darnell scored her 1,000th career point … and trust and believe, there’s many more to come.

For her efforts, Darnell is SOSA’s 19th overall SOC Athletes of the Week, presented by The UPS Store. It’s Darnell’s second such award.

Out of 356 public votes, Darnell accounted for exactly 200 or 56.2 percent of the total. South Webster’s Brayden Bockway finished second in the voting with 106, Green’s Anna Knapp was third with a count of 35, and West’s Luke Howard was fourth at 15.

Darnell received two of the four votes from the guys at SOSA to win her portion of the award.

For her efforts, Darnell will receive a free t-shirt from The UPS Store, as well as meal coupons from the Schmidt Family Restaurant Group.
