JACKSON — When Treylan Davis takes the field this coming fall, he’ll do so with his college decision behind him.

Davis, a junior tight end at Jackson, committed to the University of Cincinnati on Wednesday, via Twitter.

“UC has an outstanding fan base that genuinely cares for their programs, all sports and academics as well. The coaching staff and people surrounding the program are super genuine and they are people I want to surround myself around,” Davis said. “My family, especially mom, dad, and my sister, has been a huge motivation for me. They have sacrificed so much for me to get this opportunity and I wouldn’t be here without them.”

This past season, Davis was an imperative piece to a team that finished 11-1. The Ironmen made their third straight playoff appearance and the program’s 14th overall.

“My coaches have taught me everything there is to know about being a man and a football player, and for that I can never repay them,” Davis said. “My teammates mean the world to me. We battle together and I wouldn’t want to go to war with any other guys than the ones I have.”

Last week, Cincinnati coach Luke Fickell had the opportunity to coach at Michigan State University. He chose to stay at UC, which had an impact on Davis’ decision.

“Coach Fickell staying is amazing and I look forward to being a part of his tradition and culture at UC,” he said.

Cincinnati finished 11-3 this past fall and 7-1 in the American Athletic Conference. They fell in the conference championship game, 29-24, to Memphis before beating Boston College 38-6 in the Birmingham Bowl.

Davis will soon have the opportunity to play on those types of stages each Saturday.

“Being a college athlete is simply a blessing,” he said. “It provides you with so many opportunities that not everyone is able to have in life. For this opportunity, to be a college athlete, I am forever grateful.”
