BOYS BASKETBALL

CHILLICOTHE 68, JACKSON 49

The Cavaliers (17-4, 9-0 FAC) clinched an outright Frontier Athletic Conference title with a win over visiting Jackson on Thursday.

Chillicothe’s Jayvon Maughmer scored 24 points and added six assists in the win while Brandon Noel had 20 points and 11 rebounds. Tre Beard also chipped in, finishing with nine points and four assists.

For Jackson (18-3, 8-2 FAC), Caleb Wallis led the way with 22 points … including his 1,000th career point.

With a win at Waverly on Thursday, the Pirates (19-2, 14-1 SOC II) clinched at least a share of the Southern Ohio Conference crown.

Leading Wheelersburg to the win was J.J. Truitt with 19 points while Eli Swords had 18 of his own. Michael Miller finished with 10 points and Carter McCorkle ended the night with nine.

For the Tigers (16-5, 13-2 SOC II), Trey Robertson poured in 27 points while Will Futhey ended with 12.

UNIOTO 54, RIVER VALLEY 42

The Shermans (18-4) claimed their second consecutive sectional title with a win over River Valley in Division II action, Thursday at Adena.

Leading Unioto statistically was Emily Coleman with 17 points while Cree Stulley had 13.

The Shermans will now play Vinton County in a Division II district semifinal on Feb. 20 at Southeastern.

VINTON COUNTY 71, CHILLICOTHE 39

The Vikings had no trouble disposing of the Cavaliers (7-14) at Logan on Thursday, advancing to a district semifinal.

Vinton County was led in scoring by Morgan Bentley with 20 points while Lacie Williams had 15. Cameron Zinn and Tegan Bartoe also helped out, scoring 13 and 12 points.

Chillicothe was led statistically by Julia Hall with 14 points while Jacey Harding followed with nine.

The Tigers (15-7) ended their season with a tough loss to McClain, Thursday at Logan.

Leading McClain in scoring was Emma Stegbauer with seven points while Payton Pryor, Kyla Burchett, Brianna Weller and Josie Crabtree all had six.

McCain ends the season as co-FAC champions.

NORTHWEST 46, CROOKSVILLE 23

The Mohawks (18-3) had very little trouble with Crooksville, Thursday in a Division III sectional semifinal at Valley.

Leading Northwest to the win was Ava Jenkins with 12 points, six rebounds and four assists while Valerie Copas had 12 points. Keirah Potts also helped out, scoring 10 points and posting seven rebounds while Kloe Montgomery added four points and a team-high 11 boards.

Northwest will now face Oak Hill in a Division III sectional final, Saturday at Valley.

In a Division III sectional semifinal at Valley High School, the Huntsmen (8-15) saw their season come to a close.

In the loss, sophomore Allison Basye finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds while Megan Steele had seven points. Gracie Davis brought down eight boards, Emily Haubeil had two points and six rebounds, and Katie Hirsch ended with three points and seven rebounds.

The Oaks (14-8) survived an early tournament scare on Thursday, edging Eastern Meigs in a Division III sectional semifinal by a two-point margin.

Leading Oak Hill in scoring was Caitlyn Brisker with 22 points while Chloe Chambers added 16. Olivia Clarkson also helped out with six points.

In a Division IV sectional final at Northwest, Notre Dame (21-2) handed Clay a loss for the third time this season.

The win for the Titans marks the program’s 10th consecutive sectional crown.

Ava Hassel and Taylor Schmidt both led the Titans with 14 points while Lauren Campbell added 10 of her own. In total, eight different players scored for Notre Dame.

For Clay (8-16), Shaley Munion had nine points and Mckenzie Loper had six.

Leading Green in scoring was Kasey Kimbler with 17 points while Kame Sweeney had nine. Kimberly Brown also chipped in with seven points.
