Notre Dame, Eastern Brown nab top seeds in district tournament draws

Take a look at where the area’s girls basketball programs will begin their tournament runs.

The area’s girls basketball programs learned of their first-round postseason fates Sunday afternoon as the Southeast Ohio District Athletic Board revealed tournament seeds.

Here’s a brief look at where each area team will begin its postseason run.

DIVISION II

The top-seeded team in SOSA’s coverage area is No. 5 Unioto (17-3). The Shermans will take on No. 12 River Valley at 8 p.m., Feb. 13 at Adena.

No. 7 Miami Trace (14-5) battles No. 10 Waverly (12-7) at noon, Feb. 15 at Adena. Directly after that game at Adena, No. 11 Washington (9-9) takes on No. 6 Fairfield Union.

No. 9 McClain (13-5) faces No. 8 Logan Elm at 8 p.m., Feb. 13 at Logan High School. No. 18 Jackson (2-15) faces No. 15 Gallia Academy at Logan on Feb. 10 with tip set for 8 p.m. while No. 14 Hillsboro (5-14) takes on No. 3 Warren at Logan, with tip set for noon on Feb. 15.

No. 13 Chillicothe (7-12) will also start its tournament run at Logan High School, facing No. 4 Vinton County at 6:15 p.m. on Feb. 13.

DIVISON III

Eastern Brown (19-0) is the top seed in Division III and will await the winner of No. 16 Lynchburg-Clay (10-8) and No. 17 Federal Hocking. The Warriors will play that game at 1 p.m. on Feb. 15 at Valley.

Also near the top half of the bracket is No. 25 Piketon (7-13), who will play No. 8 Dawson-Bryant at 6:46 p.m., Feb. 10 at Valley. No. 4 Southeastern (16-4) takes on No. 29 Zane Trace (2-17) at 6:15 p.m., Feb. 12 at Jackson.

Further down, No. 20 West (9-11) battles with No. 13 Fairland at 8 p.m., Feb. 12 at Jackson. No. 5 Northwest (17-3) faces No. 28 Crooksville at 6:15 p.m., Feb. 13 at Valley while No. 12 Oak Hill (12-8) bouts with No. 21 Eastern Meigs at 8 p.m., Feb. 13 at Jackson.

Wheelersburg (17-2) is a No. 2 seed and will start it tournament path against No. 31 Wellston at 2 p.m., Feb. 9 at Valley. Near the Pirates in the bracket is No. 15 Fairfield (10-8), which will take on No. 18 Chesapeake at 2 p.m., Feb. 9 at Jackson.

No. 7 North Adams (14-4) faces No. 26 Valley (5-15) at 6:15 p.m., Feb. 10 at Jackson. No. 10 Adena (14-8) plays SVC foe, No. 23 Westfall (8-11), at 8 p.m., Feb. 10 at Jackson.

No. 30 West Union (2-17) has the task of taking on No. 3 Ironton at 6:15 p.m., Feb. 12 at Valley, while No. 19 Minford (9-11) plays No. 14 New Lexington at 8 p.m., Feb. 12 at Valley.

Lastly, in Division III, No. 22 Huntington (7-11) takes on No. 11 South Point at 8 p.m., Feb. 13 at Valley.

DIVISON IV

In Division IV, top-seeded Notre Dame (18-2) will have a familiar matchup, taking on either No. 16 Symmes Valley (5-13) or No. 17 Clay (6-15) at 6:15 p.m., Feb. 13 at Northwest.

No. 8 South Webster (11-8) will take on No. 9 Manchester (9-9) at 8 p.m., Feb. 13 at Northwest. No. 13 Eastern (7-15) faces No. 20 Whiteoak (1-18) at 8 p.m., Feb. 10 at Northwest.

Green (15-5), a No. 5 seed, tangles with No. 12 South Gallia at 1 p.m., Feb. 15 at Northwest while No. 2 Peebles (16-2) battles either No. 15 Paint Valley (4-17) or No. 18 Western (3-17) at 6:15 p.m., Feb. 13 at Wellston.

No. 19 East (1-20) faces No. 14 Southern at 8 p.m., Feb. 10 at Wellston. Lastly, No. 6 New Boston (14-7) takes on SOC I foe, No. 11 Ironton St. Joe (10-10) at 2:45 p.m., Feb. 15 at Northwest.
