Wheelersburg’s Kaylee Darnell wins The UPS Store’s SOC Athlete of the Week award

Darnell scored 44 combined points in two wins over Eastern and Vinton County.

WHEELERSBURG — Since her arrival on the high school basketball scene, Wheelersburg junior Kaylee Darnell has done but cause opposing defenses a world of problems.

Darnell’s hot hand has carried the Pirates to an 11-1 start this season after a regional final run last winter.

Last week, Darnell helped her team beat Eastern in SOC II action and Vinton Count in a non-league bout to star the new year. In those two contests, she was her usual self, scoring 44 combined points.

For those efforts, Darnell is SOSA’s 15th overall SOC Athlete of the Week, presented by The UPS Store.

Out of 726 public votes, Kimbler accounted for 226 or 31.1 percent of the total. Northwest’s Ava Jenkins finished second in the voting with 211, Valley’s Kayden Mollette was third with a count of 157, Waverly’s Zoiee Smith was fourth at 116, and Notre Dame’s Jermaine Powell came in fifth with 16.

Darnell received two of the four votes from the guys at SOSA as well.

For her efforts, Darnell will receive a free t-shirt from The UPS Store, as well as meal coupons from the Schmidt Family Restaurant Group.
