CHILLICOTHE — One of the area’s most elite athletes has officially found a collegiate home.
Southeastern senior Lane Ruby has committed to play football at Indiana Wesleyan University, an NAIA school in the Crossroads League.
Ruby made his announcement via Twitter, Thursday evening.
“[Indiana Wesleyan] feels like home every time I’m there,” Ruby said. “I have a great relationship with most of the coaches. It’s always been my first option. My family, teammates and coaches have meant a lot to me [throughout the process]. I couldn’t have made this decision without getting everyone’s opinion.”
Ruby was Ohio’s Division VI Offensive Player of the Year this past season as well as his district and conference POY. He led the Panthers to an 11-1 record and a third straight playoff appearance while rushing for 2,310 yards and 35 touchdowns. He also passed for 734 yards and five additional scores.
“I am mostly looking forward to my development as an athlete and the opportunity’s it will bring,” Ruby said of his arrival on campus. “[Being a college athlete] means that all of my hard work has paid off and I’ve reached my goals. I guess now it’s time for new goals for my life, but the hard work continues.”
