WILLIAMSPORT — After helping her team win its first Scioto Valley Conference title since 2013, the program’s fourth in history, Kristin Phillips can claim another crown.
Phillips has been named the SVC’s Player of the Year … and for good reason.
The junior logged a team-high 351 kills alongside 24 service aces, 63 blocks and 161 digs. Those numbers allowed Phillips’ Mustangs to finish the regular season 18-4 overall with a 12-2 mark inside the SVC.
The award allows Kristin to follow in her sister Hannah’s footsteps, who won the Player of the Year award in 2015.
Also taking home hardware was Adena’s Camryn Carroll, who was named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year. Carroll, a sophomore, led the Warriors with 301 digs and 341 serve receives.
Carroll’s recognition also allows her to follow in a sister’s footsteps. Carly Carroll, who played from 2013 to 2016, won the Defensive POY award in ’15 and ’16.
The conference’s Coach of the Year award was given to Westfall’s Jessica Rodgers-Sullivan, making her a two-time recipient (2013).
Joining Phillips and Carroll on the SVC’s all-league list is Huntington’s Megan Steele, Southeastern’s Skylar Hice, Adena’s Jenna Martin, Westfall’s Josie Williams and Zane Trace’s Alli Bennett.
Steele led the Huntsmen to a 15-7 overall mark, Hice logged 283 kills, Martin had 190 kills, 40 aces, 67 blocks and 75 digs, Williams was Phillips’ partner in crime while finishing with 183 kills, 37 aces, 24 blocks, 266 digs and 371 assists, and Bennett ended the year with a team-high 220 kills.
The rest of the all-league selections are as follows: Unioto’s trio of Amber Cottrill, Kacey Pierce and Hallie Pinkerton, Huntington’s Allison Basye, Adena’s Ellie Harper, Southeastern’s Hannah Lougheed, Zane Trace’s Laynee Hill, Westfall’s Marissa Mullins and Paint Valley’s Olivia Smith.
