Western’s Carigan Haggy wins The UPS Store’s SOC Athlete of the Week award

Haggy helped Western win two matches last week while posting 41 kills and 78 digs.

SOSA Staff Report

LATHAM — There’s a reason why Western’s volleyball program is 15-6 this season. Senior Carigan Haggy is a big part of that reason.

Haggy leads the team in kills with 238 and has also logged 31 aces and 521 digs this fall. Last week alone, in just three matches, Haggy tallied 41 kills and 78 digs — assisting the Indians to two wins.

For that effort, Haggy is SOSA’s seventh SOC Athlete of the Week, presented by The UPS Store.

Out of 200 public votes, Haggy accounted for 95 or 47.5 percent of the total. Clay’s Jaelyn Warnock finished second in the voting with 67, Minford’s Maddie Slusher was third with a count of 21, Wheelersburg’s Makya Matthews was fourth at 14, and South Webster’s Gavin Bennett came in fifth with 3.

Haggy received two of the four votes from the guys at SOSA as well.

For her efforts, Haggy will receive a free t-shirt from The UPS Store, as well as meal coupons from the Schmidt Family Restaurant Group.
