Waverly’s Will Futhey wins Athlete of the Week honors

Futhey set a school record for receiving yards in the Tigers' rout of Amanda last week.

SOSA Staff Report

WAVERLY — If you needed to find Will Futhey on Friday night, all you had to do was to look in the end zone.

Waverly’s sophomore wide receiver scored five times in the Tigers’ 48-13 rout of Amanda-Clearcreek … oh, and added a school record 290 receiving yards on 10 catches in the victory.

That performance allowed Futhey to be voted as SOSA’s “Athlete of the Week.”

Out of 1,679 public votes, Futhey accounted for 606 or 36.1 percent of the total. Minford’s Livi Shonkwiler finished second in the voting with 528, Paint Valley’s Brayden Ison was third with a count of 212, Adena’s Jenna Martin was fourth at 205, and Unioto’s Emily Lott came in fifth with 128.

Futhey received all four votes from the guys at SOSA as well.

For his efforts, Futhey will receive a free duffel bag from MOJO-USA, a free t-shirt thanks to Mile Tree Screen Printing and a free Wendy’s combo meal via Schmidt Family Restaurant Group.
