SOSA Staff Report
MINFORD — The Minford Falcons may just have the hottest offense in Southern Ohio right now.
The Falcons, at 4-0, have churned out point totals of 43, 54, 45 and 31. That’s, in part, due to the quarterback-tailback combo of Elijah Vogelsong and Ty Wiget. But this past week, Matthew Risner lent a huge helping hand.
In a 31-27 win over Wilmington, Risner caught five passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns, hooking up with Vogelsong through the air.
For those efforts, Risner is SOSA’s fifth SOC Athlete of the Week, presented by The UPS Store.
Out of 942 public votes, Risner accounted for 365 or 38.8 percent of the total. Waverly’s Carli Knight finished second in the voting with 166, Wheelersburg’s Trevin Mault was third with a count of 158, New Boston’s Shelby Easter was fourth at 135, and Notre Dame’s Ava Hassel came in fifth with 118.
Risner received three of the four votes from the guys at SOSA as well.
For his efforts, Risner will receive a free t-shirt from The UPS Store, as well as meal coupons from the Schmidt Family Restaurant Group.
