“Even coming into the county tournament with an 11-2 record, things don’t always go the way you expect with every team being pumped up to win the County Quad,” Waverly coach Nancy Terry said. “Our entire team was able to keep up the intensity and keep the championship plaque at home another year.”
Leading the Tigers (13-2) to the title was Carli Knight with 18 kills and 18 digs, as well as Sarah Thompson with 19 kills, two blocks and six digs. Kelli Stewart added 11 kills and seven digs, Annie Silcott had 10 kills and 11 digs, and Hailie Silcott finished with six kills, 18 digs and 56 assists.
Eastern took second place in the tournament after beating Piketon in the first round by a 27-25, 23-25, 25-17 final while Western finished third with a 26-24, 25-21 win over the Redstreaks.
