Westfall’s Josie Williams wins Athlete of the Week honors

Williams had 32 kills, 45 digs and 39 assists in two wins over Huntington and Adena last week.

WILLIAMSPORT — Westfall’s volleyball program is still undefeated in Scioto Valley Conference play for several reasons. The team’s leader, captain and lone senior Josie Williams is one of those reasons.

Last week, in wins over Huntington and Adena, Williams tallied 32 kills, 45 digs and 49 assists. She earned the bulk of those kills, 24 to be exact, in last Thursday’s four-set win over Adena.

The Mustangs currently stand at 10-1 overall and 7-0 in the SVC. Williams’ season totals have reached 80 kills, 17 aces, 96 digs and 180 assists.

For her efforts, Williams has been voted as SOSA’s “Athlete of the Week.”

Out of 761 public votes, Williams accounted for 241 or 31.8 percent of the total. Minford’s Ty Wiget finished second in the voting with 238, Adena’s Preston Sykes was third with a count of 134, Paint Valley’s Cruz McFadden was fourth at 121, Wheelersburg’s Makya Matthews came in fifth with 22 and Hillsboro’s Mark Gallimore was sixth with 4.

Williams received three of the four votes from the guys at SOSA as well.

For her efforts, Wamsley will receive a free duffel bag from MOJO-USA, a free t-shirt thanks to Mile Tree Screen Printing and a free Wendy’s combo meal via Schmidt Family Restaurant Group.
