WILLIAMSPORT — Having to pick between three different sports … three in which you’re really, really good at … can be difficult. But for Westfall’s Marcy Dudgeon, that decision is behind her.
Dudgeon, who plays soccer, basketball and softball for the Mustangs, committed to Muskingum University Friday evening via Twitter.
Her sport of choice: basketball.
“When I stepped on Muskingum’s campus, it instantly felt like home for me. I knew that it was the school for me when I saw how close-knit the student body was, how supportive all my counselors are, and how willing they were to work with me being a nursing major, and a college athlete,” Dudgeon said. “Coach [Erin] Eaton and coach [Sean] Strickland have an amazing vision for the program. I can’t wait to be apart of their first recruiting class.”
In her three years at Westfall, Dudgeon has played an imperative role in every part of any success. As a junior, she averaged 12.8 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Her team finished 13-10 overall and 8-6 in the SVC.
She got there with hard work and, of course, a solid support system.
“My family has been a huge part of the recruitment process, from spending long hours on the sidelines of the basketball court, to taking many days off work to drive me to visits while I was trying to find the right fit for me,” Dudgeon said. “I’ve had multiple coaches help me become the athlete I am today and I could not have done this without them, as well as my teammates, who have made the long nights in the gym, and the early mornings so worth it. I push myself everyday to make them all proud.”
Dudgeon has one more year to make her mark at Westfall. But she’ll now be able to do so without the weight of a pending college decision on her mind.
Then, she’ll have her chance to make her mark as a Muskie.
“I am most looking forward to being able to represent my community at the next level,” Dudgeon said. “It is a huge honor to be chosen to play at the next level, and I can not wait to make a name for myself at Muskingum.”
