WAVERLY — After mowing down lineups and hitting with ease at the dish, Waverly Post 142’s Derek Eblin has been named as Southern Ohio Sports Authority’s first summer “Athlete of the Week.”
In three wins, Eblin was 5-for-8 at the plate with a double, two runs and four RBIs. On the mound, he threw five innings while allowing an unearned runs on just two hits and striking out five, picking up a victory over Hillsboro 129.
All summer long, Eblin has been Waverly’s staff ace. Back on June 25, Eblin threw a bonafide no-hitter against Athens 21. In that 5-0 win, he struck out five hitters and threw just 65 pitches.
For his efforts this past week, Eblin will receive a free duffel bag from MOJO-USA, a free t-shirt thanks to Mile Tree Screen Printing and a free Wendy’s combo meal via Schmidt Family Restaurant Group.
NOTE: The Athlete of the Week polls will return to the site the week of Aug. 26 … after the first full week of fall sports.
