CHILLICOTHE — Before hosting a doubleheader with Champion City Thursday evening at VA Memorial Stadium, the Chillicothe Paints split a two-game series in Springfield over the past two days.

The Paints (14-9) beat the Kings by a 23-4 final in Tuesday’s contest before suffering a 15-10 loss on Wednesday.

In Tuesday’s win, there was plenty of offense to go around as Chillicothe pounded out 17 hits. Both Gavin Homer (Penn State) and Cole Andrews (Miami) hit their fifth home runs this season. Homer was 1-for-2 with two runs and four RBIs while Andrews finished 4-for-5 with three runs and four RBIs.

Cody Orr (Tiffin) and Collin Luty (Northern Kentucky) also helped out. Orr went 3-for-5 with a double, four runs and three RBIs while Luty was 2-for-6 with a double, two runs and five RBIs.

On the hill, Zach Kendall (2-0, Rio Grande) picked up the win, throwing 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out four.

In Wednesday’s loss, Andrews had another big night, going 2-for-5 with his sixth home run this summer alongside four RBIs. Orr also homered, going 1-for-4 with two runs, as did Charlie Patrick (DePauw), who was 1-for-3 with three RBIs.

The Paints and Kings get back at it Thursday evening in a doubleheader. First pitch of the first game is slated for 6:05 p.m.
