Eblin tosses no-hitter in Waverly’s win over Athens 21

WAVERLY — After finishing as the Jadwin Memorial Tournament’s runner-up this past weekend, Waverly Post 142 rolled into this week with momentum at its back.

Behind a pitching gem from Derek Eblin, the Shockers (9-6) continued to play well with a 5-0 win over Athens 21 Tuesday evening.

Eblin threw a seven-inning no-hitter while striking out five batters in the process. Eblin allowed only two base runners, hitting both with pitches. In 23 batters faced, he threw 18 first-pitch strikes while inducing 11 ground balls and four flyouts.

At the plate, he got help from Ian Gillen, who was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs. Cade Powell, Tanner Cunningham, Parker Clemmons and Cade McNeil also posted base hits.

The Shockers are back in action Thursday evening, hosting McArthur 303 at 6 p.m.
