Chillicothe’s offense explodes as Paints earn first win of season

Chillicothe won its first game Friday night with a 15-4 decision over Champion City.

SOSA Staff Report

CHILLICOTHE After dropping its home opener on Thursday at the hands of Champion City, Chillicothe Paints manager Brian Bigam said he just wanted his guys to compete.

On Friday, the Paints (1-1) did more than just compete. They won, and in resounding fashion.

Chillicothe unloaded 15 hits and played error-free defensively as it got into the win column for the first time this summer with a convincing 15-4 victory over the Kings (1-1).

Trey Smith led the Paints’ offense, going 5-for-5 with three doubles and five RBIs while catcher Dylan Shockley was 2-for-4 with a home run. Parker Murdie and Chris Eisel each had three RBIs on the night as well.

On the hill, Taylor Perrett picked up the win after tossing 6 1/3 innings and allowing no earned runs on a single hit while striking out four.

The Paints now travel to Champion City, Saturday and Sunday, for the final two games of the two teams’ four-game season-opening series.
