Division III track athletes punch tickets to Columbus

Multiple athletes competed in Friday's Division III regional final track meet and advanced to Columbus.

LANCASTER — Competing at Fairfield Union High School, multiple Division III track athletes in SOSA’s coverage area punched their tickets to the 2019 OHSAA Track and Field State Championships.

Southeastern’s Lane Ruby won regional titles in both the long jump and the 100-meter dash. Ruby tallied a mark of 21-feet-6 in the long jump while running a 10.95 in the 100 dash.

Joining Ruby with a state qualification in the 100 dash was Paint Valley’s Brayden Ison, who finished third at 11.22 seconds.

Ison also helped the Bearcats’ 4×100-meter relay team — alongside Caleb Adams, Justin Draise and Malique Davis — qualify with a finish time of 44.25, winning the event.

In the shot put, Valley’s Jacob Brickey qualified with a second-place finish, throwing a mark of 53-feet-7. Likewise, South Webster’s Josiah Edwards took second in the discus throw with a mark of 147 feet.

In the 400-meter dash, Adena’s Tate Myers finished fourth with a mark of 50.85 while Green’s Zach Huffman made it in the 300-meter hurdles, finishing third at 40.36.

Wheelersburg also saw success, sending six athletes to Columbus.

Paige Emnett won the shot put with a distance of 44-8, a new district record. Libby Miller also qualified individually, finishing fourth in the 100 dash at 12.68.

The Pirates’ 4×100 and 4×200 relays are also headed to the state meet.

Miller, Lauren Jolly, Alyssa Dingus and Lani Irwin finished second in the 4×200 relay at 1:46.98 while Miller, Irwin, Jolly and Gabby Deacon took second in the 4×100 relay at 50.36.

The OHSAA State Track and Field State Championships will be held on May 31 and June 1 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of Ohio State University.
