SOSA Staff Report

PORTSMOUTH — After a sensational week in the pitcher’s circle and at the plate, Portsmouth Notre Dame junior Cassie Schaefer has been voted as the Southern Ohio Sports Authority “Athlete of the Week.”

In the Titans’ six wins last week, Schaefer was 10-for-19 at the dish alongside three doubles, five runs scored and seven RBIs. With the ball in her hand, the flamethrower tossed 31 innings, struck out 47 hitters and didn’t surrender a single earned run.

Out of 553 public votes, Schaefer accounted for 237 or 42.9 percent of the total. Clay’s Reece Whitley finished second in the voting with 109, Wheelersburg’s Hunter Ruby was third with a count of 99, Paint Valley’s Bryce Newland took fourth at 302, and Unioto’s Hallie Pinkerton was fifth with 37.

Schaefer also received all four votes from the guys at SOSA.

For her efforts, Schaefer will receive a free duffel bag from MOJO-USA, a free t-shirt thanks to Mile Tree Screen Printing and a free Wendy’s combo meal via Schmidt Family Restaurant Group.

Schaefer and the Titans will be back in action Monday evening, hosting Green.
