CHILLICOTHE — After his brother claimed the same title just one year ago, Chillicothe’s Jayvon Maughmer has been named the Frontier Athletic Conference’s Player of the Year … with another year left to win a second such honor.
Maughmer led the conference champion Cavaliers to a 9-1 record in league play alongside a 16-5 overall mark. Throughout the season, Maughmer has averaged just under 15 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
Joining Maughmer with FAC Player of the Year honors were both Washington’s Hannah Haithcock and Miami Trace’s Shaylee McDonald, who shared the award on the girls side.
Haithcock, a double-double machine, led the Blue Lions to an outright title with a 9-1 record inside the FAC while McDonald, a threat to score from anywhere, paced the Panthers to an 8-2 mark.
Overall, Washington sits at 18-5 after Thursday’s 61-23 win over Waverly while Miami Trace ended the regular season at 15-7 and awaits a sectional final matchup with McClain this Saturday.
Eight other boys and seven other girls were also honored by the conference, earning all-league status.
Maughmer’s teammates Brandon Noel and Tre Beard were on that list while Washington, who finished second in the conference, had one selection in Evan Upthegrove. Jackson’s pair of Cooper Donaldson and Caleb Wallis, McClain’s duo of Devin Carter and Dalton Mischal, and Hillsboro’s Ethan Watson rounded out the boys all-league list.
McClain had three girls earn all-FAC honors in Maddy Stegbauer, Bryn Karnes and Kyla Burchett. Joining that trio was Chillicothe’s Shawnice Smith, Miami Trace’s Cassidy Lovett, and both Washington’s Rayana Burns and Shawna Conger.
