Wheelersburg’s Jolly, Green lead All-SOC soccer honors

The Southern Ohio Conference has released its all-league boys soccer honors.

After scoring 48 goals and passing out 21 assists, Wheelersburg’s Aaron Jolly collected yet another postseason honor on Wednesday.

Jolly, who has led the Pirates to a 21-0 mark and their first-ever regional title, has been named the SOC II’s Offensive Player of the Year.

Meanwhile, Jolly’s teammate and goalkeeper Eric Green has been named the SOC II’s Defensive Player of the Year. Green has led a defense that’s given up just eight goals all year long, all while he’s posted 63 saves.

Wheelersburg coach Jon Estep is the SOC II’s Coach of the Year.

The Pirates also had Lane Jordan, Jacob Saxby, Braxton Sammons, Preslee Etterling, and Max Hagans received first-team all-league status.

South Webster’s Trae Zimmerman, Tristan Robinson, Aiden Andrews, Jaren Lower and Connor Bender, Minford’s Caden Banks, Skylar Knore, Zane Miller and Adam Crank, Northwest’s Brycen Carver, Dylan Dehart and Jay Jenkins, Waverly’s Aaron Haynes and Caleb Boyer, and West’s Caleb Hazelbaker all received first-team all-conference honors as well.

Receiving second-team all-conference status is Wheelersburg’s Carter McCorkle, Aiden Wright and Josh Boggs, South Webster’s Stephen Smith, Brody Boggs and Zander Rawlins, Minford’s Jacob Lewis and Tyler Borders, Northwest’s Logan Shepherd and Levi Bruch, Waverly’s Keagan Smith, and West’s Maverick Stone and Austin Throckmorton.

In the SOC I, Ironton St. Joe’s Bryce Balestra is the league’s Offensive Player of the Year while his teammate Jimmy Mahlmeister is the Defensive POY.

The Flyers swept the league’s postseason honors as coach Mike Balestra was named the SOC I Coach of the Year.

Ironton St. Joe finished the year 17-1-1, falling in a Division III district final to Lynchburg-Clay. Balestra scored 24 goals and passed out 27 assists while Mahlmeister made 149 saves in goal.

The Flyers’ JC Damron, Jared Johnson, Jackson Rowe, Max Weber, Michael Mahlmeister and Matthew Sheridan were also first-team honorees.

Valley’s Austin Sommers, AJ Johnson, Bryce Smart, JR Holbrook and Hunter Edwards, New Boston’s Tanner Voiers, Kyle Sexton, Dalton Jackson and Austin Gosselin, and Clay’s Shaden Malone, Clay Cottle and Jaymes Jones are also first-team players.

Second-team all-conference honors were earned by Ironton St. Joe’s Will Whaley, Zachary Johnson and Bryson Burcham, Valley’s Jared Gahm, Wesley Holbrook and Colton Buckle, New Boston’s Brady Voiers and Preston Jackson, and Clay’s Jaden Jessee and Nathan Penn.
